Timothy M. Steffen, CPA/PFS, CFP®, CPWA®
As Director of Advanced Planning for Baird, Tim is responsible for researching, writing and speaking on important planning issues that impact the clients of Baird. This includes topics related to retirement and estate planning, tax law, executive compensation, business owners, legislative changes, and overall best practices.
Tim joined Baird in 1999 serving in a variety of planning roles, then left in 2019 to join the Advisor Education team at PIMCO, and returned to Baird in 2021. Prior to 1999, Tim specialized in tax and financial planning in Arthur Andersen’s Private Client Services group in Milwaukee.
Tim earned his BS degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois in 1991. He is a CPA®/Personal Financial Specialist, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, a Certified Private Wealth AdvisorTM professional and a member of the American and Wisconsin Institutes of CPAs, Investments & Wealth Institute (IWI) and the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

In addition, he speaks to numerous client and professional groups about tax and financial planning topics and has taught financial planning classes for IWI and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Ross Mayfield, CFA Investment Strategist | Vice President Private Wealth Management
Ross Mayfield is an Investment Strategist at Baird. In this role, he creates investment research for advisors and clients, focused on financial markets, the economy, and the benefits of long-term investing. He frequently appears in print, television, and online media to discuss markets and investing. Ross holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Kentucky and earned his MBA from the University of Louisville. Prior to his current role at Baird, he was an ETF Analyst and Research Associate at Hilliard Lyons. He is the former President of the CFA Society of Louisville.
Zach Chamberlain, CFP®, ChFC® Financial Planner
Zach joined Baird in April of 2022 as a Regional Financial Planner in the Louisville, KY office. Born & raised in Evansville, IN, Zach has called Louisville home for the last 15 years. As a planner, Zach is especially passionate about financial education, risk management, and charitable and special needs planning. Specifically he helps people understand the consequences of their actions or lack thereof and helps clients make an impact for the causes & people important to them.
Zach holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Southern Indiana. As a believer in lifelong learning, Zach has obtained both the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) & Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designations and is an active participant in the FPA of Kentuckiana volunteering time for the pro bono financial education programs. Zach has represented firms from the Midwest throughout his career beginning with Edward Jones, then Northwestern Mutual and ultimately finding a home at Baird.
When Zach is not working, he enjoys, spending time with his daughters Taylor and Avery, cooking, hiking, and golf.
Mark K. Nickel, CFP®
President, Chief Investment Officer, Baird Trust
Mark is President and Chief Investment Officer of Baird Trust. He has over 20 years of experience in the investment industry and holds the Certified Financial Planner® designation.
Mark previously served as the Chief Investment Officer for Hilliard Lyons leading the firm’s investment strategy, portfolio management and investment support teams. Mark received a B.S. in finance from the University of Louisville and an M.B.A. from Smurfit School of Business, University College of Dublin (Ireland). He serves on the board of the University of Louisville Foundation. Mark joined Baird (then Hilliard Lyons) in 2006.
Jonathan Raymon, J.D., CTFA, CAP
Sr. Vice President
Charitable Solutions Strategist- Baird Trust
Jonathan is a Senior Vice President and Charitable Solutions Strategist for Baird Trust. He provides trust administration and client service, focusing on charitable trusts and charitable organizations. He has 11 years of experience in the investment industry and holds the Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designations. Jonathan is a member of the American, Kentucky, and Louisville Bar Associations and a member of the Taxation Section of the Louisville Bar Association, previously serving as Chair.
Jonathan spent twelve years with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, where he worked as a Faculty Manager, and one year with the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Chief Counsel as a Legal Intern. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Loras College, a Master’s from University of Houston, and a J.D. from the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law. He is President of the Estate Planning Council of Metro Louisville and has served on several boards of local non-profits and actively volunteers for others. Jonathan joined our firm in 2012.
Sam C. Ellington, CFA®

Sr. Portfolio Manager- Baird Trust
Sam is a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager of Baird Trust. He has over 30 years of experience in the investment industry with a focus on wealth management. Sam holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
Prior to joining Baird Trust, Sam was the Wealth Director for PNC Wealth Management. Prior to that, he served as a Banker for J.P. Morgan Private Bank and Director of Portfolio Management for Mainstream Investment Advisers, LLC. Sam received a B.S. in Finance from Murray State University. Sam serves on the Boards of the Kentucky Science Center and Volunteers of America—Mid States. He joined Baird in 2020.
